Green Building is the choice that an owner, architect, general contractor and their subcontractors make in an effort to consider the environment during the construction and subsequent occupancy of a project. “Green Building” is a term to describe the design, construction, occupancy and maintenance of a building to significantly reduce or eliminate the impact on the environment. This can include reuse or recycling of materials, use of rapidly renewable resources, energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems, alternate energy sources and redevelopment of existing building sites.
The benefits of green buildings can include improved air and water quality, reduction of landfill waste thru recycling, reduced energy costs and in some instances tax incentives.
